Internships OfferedThe following internships are available during the Fall, Spring and Summer Semesters: These internships are full-time and accompanied by a $50 weekly stipend: FRIEDMAN THEATRE (FALL AND SPRING ONLY) Interns assist in Theatre and Company Management at the Friedman with performance-related activities from pre-show to final curtain including general theatre operations, customer service, patron and subscriber service support and preparation of performance reports coordinating, maintaining and operating gift shop. Hours are scheduled according to Friedman performance schedule. BUSINESS Interns participate in the theatre's day-to-day fiscal operation. The intern interfaces with all departments gaining an overview of the entire organization. Specific tasks include the daily processing of accounts payable, preparation of box office statements, recording entries for subscription and single-ticket income, assisting with bank reconciliations, and preparing union pension and welfare statements, along with light administrative tasks. Great opportunity to learn business processes relevant to today's non-profits. DEVELOPMENT/FUNDRAISING & SPECIAL EVENTS Interns assist the Development Office in the areas of Institutional Giving, Individual Giving, and Special Events. Internships in Development offer a unique opportunity to learn about fundraising in a team-oriented environment.
LITERARY The Literary Department reviews over 1,200 scripts annually to program a season of productions. Interns are involved with all aspects of departmental activities, including script evaluation, season programming, and production coverage. Duties include clerical support, database upkeep, and attendance at in-house and out-of house readings. Knowledge of Windows and MS Office Suite strongly recommended. CASTING Interns assist in the administrative process of casting for MTC productions, special events, and in-house readings. Duties include heavy phone work with agents and managers, assisting at auditions, reading scripts, responding to submissions, and viewing productions throughout the New York City area. Working knowledge of Windows and MS Office Suite is required. These internships are part-time, volunteer positions: ARTISTIC PRODUCTION Intern staffs the office of the Associate Artistic Director providing administrative support with heavy clerical duties. The Artistic Production Intern reports directly to the Artistic Assistant and works to support the creative teams for each MTC show and the MTC staff. The Intern also assists at opening night parties and the Spring Gala. Strong communication, telephone, organizational, and writing skills are a must. Attention to detail is essential, as is a good attitude and an ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, and Outlook is required. COMPANY MANAGEMENT (FALL AND SPRING ONLY) Interns gain insight into the details of theatrical management by trafficking calls, assisting in the drafting and execution of actor contracts and coordination of show/actor related travel needs (travel, housing, etc). Interns handle house seat orders, and coordinate all Tony Voter tickets for productions at the Friedman Theatre. Occasional evening hours are required to support Company Managers at the theatres. EDUCATION (FALL AND SPRING ONLY) Interns work with the Education staff in administering classroom residencies, student matinees, professional development workshops, and family workshops. Specific responsibilities include coordinating our after-school playwriting residency, interacting with our classroom teachers and teaching artists and taking reservations for our various programs. In addition, interns will have opportunities to observe our seasoned teaching artists in action. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills a must; previous office experience a plus. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Interns will provide desktop support for a 120 node Windows environment across MTC's campus of administrative offices, theatres and production shops. Interns will interact with all departments and provide application support for department specific systems. They will be expected to address issues related to PC hardware, Windows 2000 Pro, XP Pro, printers etc. Interns will work closely with a Network administrator in performing server, Exchange and Active Directory maintenance. Knowledge of databases a plus. MARKETING/PUBLIC RELATIONS Interns are directly involved with all marketing for MTC's season and special events. Interns work on the subscription campaign, advertising, direct mail, audience surveys, subscriber correspondence, department files, and archives. Interns also assist with copywriting and layouts for playbills, newsletters, and the MTC website. Knowledge of Windows, MS Office Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver are preferred but not required. PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT Interns assist in the Production Management office, which handles budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating the technical aspects of all MTC productions, including benefits, special events, and workshops. Interns also assist in providing administrative support to technical departments at MTC. PRODUCTION ASSISTANTS work directly with stage managers of MTC productions during pre-production, rehearsal, tech, and performance. The position lasts approximately 12-15 weeks. PAs assist in all areas of stage management, including scheduling, rehearsal set-up, taking blocking notes, and prompting and running shows. Stage management experience is preferred. INTERVIEWS Please note that some departments require an in-person interview, though phone interviews can be arranged in most cases. Interviews are conducted Monday though Friday from 10am - 6pm. We do not conduct interviews in the evenings or on the weekends. Interviews begin approximately 7 days after the application deadline and continue for up to 2 months.
